Can anyone explain why on a water of 800 acres, some idiot in a boat has to drift straight onto the shore I am fishing [into head a wind I might add] and completely mess up my fishing by starting their engine 10 yards out? I never had another pull! All they could do was say the wind was wrong?? Not them Eh?

Colin,
Sometimes here in the U.S. too! The bigger the "bass boat", the bigger the ego, attitudes, & usually problems. I have noticed however, that usually the small craft with one man are more cordial & observant & will steer clear of us bank bound anglers fairly well. Alas, another similarity between our lands!
Yours in America,

What Idiot would be trout fishing on the shore on our trout loughs??? headhurt.gif rolleyes.gif Though to be fair, as a boat angler the amount of inconsiderate anglers ruining my own fishing is quite high. However I have found on Poulaphouca that some shore anglers would be almost up to their armpits in the lake while I am drifting in 2 feet of water 10 feet from the bank and catching fish. Once while drifting behind a bankfisher wading along the shore up to his chest in chest waders I caught two fish before the idiot realised while trying to cast to the middle of the lake he had waded out past all the fish. blink.gif unsure.gif rolleyes.gif There are many inconsiderate anglers out there.....not all of them are in boats.

Greg,
Who said anything about fishing in Ireland?

Over here, boat anglers are required to stay 50 metres from any bank angler [well on the AW fisheries] so drifting behind them is a no no!
Yes there are many inconsiderate anglers out there... not all of them are in boats! Just 99% of them!! wallbash.gif
By the way I boat fish as well and always consider my fellow anglers first and try not to interfere with them and their fishing.
Colin

Greg,
How are you getting on with that camera??

camera.gif I got on great Colin, it has been recently retired by a sony digital camera. I find that with a memory card of almost 400 photos it works out a lot cheaper than two dozen rolls of film + developing too thumbs.gif

As for drifting boats, I am sure that you also find many bank anglers charge out as far as possible on arriving at the shoreline, whether you are catching close in or not. I think fish are more disturbed by wading than boat traffic, after all look at how many fish are caught trolling flies and lures just yards behind the boat blink.gif. Don't get m,e wrong..I am not trying to defend ignorant anglers, but just pointing out they are not all in boats.

PS. How's the painting?

Hanging on the wall!! rolleyes.gif

In pride of place.

Reminds me of our second home every time I look at it.
We have a lady friend who comes from Sligo town and she loves that mountain.

If a boat approaches you (normally happens when you are catching and there not), put a lead head on and cast towards them. They usually get the message that they are getting to close.

Chesties aint all bad....I wear mine in the boat, add a motorbikers rain jacket with snugged collar and a good hat....totally waterproof no matter how heavy the wind and rain. They are also handy in the river. I think that deep wading in lakes should be banned totally though, the amount of damage done to invertabrate and fry habitat is high, that tends to drive feeding fish further out from the shore. Look at how many of your fisheries where wading is banned you can catch fish under your feet.

Its happend to me mate and it drives you potty, along with fellow Boat anglers powering across your drift schmoll.gif

Inexperiance and ignorance of the eticete (sp) are the main problems I think. If the bayliff pulled a few people up Know and again things would get better.
