I'm tempted to have a go at this on my local club's carp puddle. Just out of mischief, really 
Will a bite alarm really work on fly line?

It will, but be careful where you place your bivvy, as mine really ruined my cast
In all seriousness, it looks good fun. Quite a few sea anglers have got into fly-fishing through bass, and now it looks like carp (and pike) are making it all more accessible for many others.

I caught Carp on the fly 20 years ago....it just took the rest of you a long time to catch on.
