Was fishing off the rocks in the Southern Whitsunday area, caught a 66 cm (26 inch) school mackerel, filleted it and just before throwing the frame back in the sea, I got my camera ready.

The result, my 'pet' estuary cod (goldspot cod). Every time I fillet any fish and throw the frames in the sea, this bloke comes up for a feed.
The white section is about 40 cm long (16 inches).

And, NO, I don't want to try and catch it... Lost a few rigs to it already. biggrin.gif

Got a good photo of the goldspot cod (estuary cod) this morning. I had just caught a queenfish (27 cm=10.5in) and the cod was eyeing off his prospective brekkie.

Fantastic. Thats really sweet, having a pet cod. Have you tried putting a load of burley in your clenched fist & letting him suck it through your fingers or would he have your arm off ? boat.gif

Great pics.

I would have to catch this fish even if it took a lifetime, but then it would be returned and pampered once again. wink.gif

I caught his young brother 2 days ago and released it. The fish coughed up a small moses perch, as in the photo and after I took the hooks out, he disgorged another 2 fish and 2 small mudcrabs. Released to fight another day. Reel is a Shimano TR 200G and filled with 50 lb braid...

Ziggy mate, what a good idea, you come over and show me how to do it, hey?? biggrin.gif

N4lly mate, even Rex would know it is an estuary cod, murray cod are freshwater.

biggrin.gif Thank your mother for the rabbit.

My kids have fed the mullet in our local aquarium by hand, they all cluster round your hand & go on a sucking frenzy. The owner said he'd had to teach one to do it, he taught all the rest.

Could be interesting in october, they release all the fish when they close down for the winter, will try putting a handfull of fish food in the harbour, see if the captive ones have taught the wild ones.
