I received a letter today informing me that the Minister has decided to ignore objections and write up byelaws preventing anglers from removing eels and other fish. The reasons given are not valid.

As the supposed governing body for all angling, the Angling Trust has failed in it's duty and rebuked on it's manifesto promise, to protect anglers from unnecessary restrictions.

I had the same Steve.

Is it possible to object to the ruling somehow as the stakeholders were not consulted. Maybe through the EU or other body...maybe the House of Lords?

Do us a favour, give us a link to the said letter, perhaps a few can write into the said minister to show him who and how many objections he is ignoring, along with making the point that the a t does not represent the rsa. Perhaps he will like to know the reasons why. I'm up for that.

Steve, you don't really want me to tell you how to bone a herring do ya. ohmy.gif

With him being so new in office, I very much doubt that he's had a good look at the why's and wherefore's. He's obviously been told to sign them off by his Defra civil servants.

I think I'll write to his boss and suggest a few departments that could be streamlined to save a few quid. I'll definately be speaking to my local MP, (tory), about the whole fiasco.

If we had a representative body, they could probably object on our behalf. But we don't. All we have is a bunch of self interested ego maniacs with their own agendas to push, masquerading as a representative body.

Yes, Barry, I'd love you to tell me how to bone a herring correctly. Photos too, if possible. I do my best with a fork once they are cooked, but still manage to leave too many bones in them.

Dear Mr Coppolo,

Fish removal by rod and line
I am writing to advise you that, together with his counterpart in the Welsh Assembly Government, the Minister for Marine and Natural Environment has carefully considered the submissions made in relation to the Environment Agency's proposal to regulate the removal of coarse fish, eel and shad by rod and line.
The Environment Agency received a number of submissions, both in support and against the proposals.
The Ministers have decided, the objections notwithstanding, to confirm the byelaw. In doing so, the Ministers accepted that the byelaws constrain the removal of coarse fish sufficiently to protect the social and economic values of fisheries. They considered that the introduction of mandatory catch and release by rod and line for eels would be a useful adjunct to new controls on eel net fishing. They also acknowledged that the inclusion of shad would reinforce existing conservation legislation and provide clarity to anglers.

Yours sincerely,

Nigel Gooding

Thats a load of busters for two reasons, there ain't any controls on the commercial sector inline with the angling controls and advised by their own ea dept, un-nessersay. So do they mean to carry on as the last government and introduce rules and regs that have no meaning?

Gonna print and send the minister the article as well Elton, keep the slime balls on their toes.

Ok then, how i do them, and rick stein, allow another ten secs to get rid of the scales as i like eating some of the skin. Off with the head, slit the belly from ex head to tail and place upright on the table, press firmly down all along the back bone pull the tail and remove tail with bones completely, might leave a few pin bones to pull out. Very hot pan for no time at all and eat.
