Full Version: fly line advice needed
what what is the best way to put your new fly line onto the reel without getting kinks i have just wrecked one of them, tried to stretch it too far when your built like a baby elephant they are not that strong,thanks again
You don't need to put too much tension on the line to load it on a reel. Slide a rolled up magazine through the middle of the flyline and then get someone to hold it loosely. Make sure that you wind the lne on the reel the same way it comes off the coil i.e. bottom to bottom.
you could ask at your local tackle shop if they have any spare spools which the more expensive lines come on. (They may have one if they have put a line on a reel for a customer) . These come in 2 halves so you can put the coiled line on, clip them back together and then its easy to wind. always keep old spools - they are really handy!

I dont know how you managed to to get kinks in it matey Did you load the line off the side of the spool like a fixed spool reel ?.
You can quite cheaply buy a spool holder wich is realy only a spring clamp on a piece of metal rod with a suction cap on one end It makes the job easy as you can set the tenson to Suite yourself. comes in handy for filling any reel so money well spent.

what it was i bought a greys fly reel with line atached the sinker and intermediet where fine but the floater was really badly kinked so i tried to stretch it it was supposed to be a greys line,i thought they where good,but getting a snowbee delivered this morning

you'll be fine with a snowbee line - they are v. v. good. Just got a new one, comes with loops for both ends and the cleaning fluid. Just point the reel at the coil of line and attach the new line to the backing. Get a mate to sit in front of you and put both hands into the coil of new line (one hand goes into the coil of line feom each side). Then, as you wind the reel, your mate rolls the coil of his hands by passing one hand over the other.
Whatever you do, don't pull the coil of new line off from the side so it comes off like a spring.
Failing that, just lay it out neatly over the floor by uncloiling the new line as above and wind up.
