Plenty of good books on te market mate, As if you are anything like me youd forget by the time you get to the Water, and you can keep the book in your bag,

For the first few times get a local to cast an eye over what you have got and let them help guide you to your chioce of fly the name is only relivant when replacing dog eared old flys that have worked .

It is important to learn the names but give your self a chance, enjoy your fishing and in time skill and knowledge will come together on its own accord smile.gif

This might help a bit. It is the online catalogue of Select a fly.

spartafan, the ID will come with experience, don't worry about it you will soon pick it up.
Pick up any magazine on fly tying and try to guess what they are (grouse & claret, teal blue and silver etc.), also the "recipe" for the tying will help.
