Can anybody tell what are the best fly line to go for. I am new to the sport
and would like some advice what the best line is between £30 and £50 pounds
i am looking for floating and intermediate WF7. Any advice would be great.
MJB
I'm a big fan of the Cortland 444sl lines. Scientific Anglers also do very good floating lines and lots of people rate the Snowbee XS and Shakespeare Worcestshire lines. Whatever you do, don't buy an Airflo floating line no matter how good the deal seems. Cortland also do very good intermediates.

Only going by my own exprerience for the floater I would go with the Snowbee XS Prestige. No or at very little memory, rides fairly high in the water and shoots well. Have to wait for someone else for the intermediate.

I've had the Cortland 444's (both floating and intermediate) for around 3 years now and they still cast superbly.
When I next buy I'll stick with them - worth every penny.

I was, and still am a great fan of Cortland 444s but if you want a really good line for a lot less money try this one, I think it is the best value fly line around and a lot of very good fly fishers reckon it's the best at any price

My opinion?
I fly fished for most of my life and never spent a great deal of money on gear. It might be a false economy but I always bought cheaper lines and replace them every year, and often "out fish" people using much more expensive kit.
I do have airflo lines for my heavy pike/rainbow gear which arent cheap and i'm happy enough with them, mjb you dont say what you have against them

I have Worcestershire-excellent and nowhere near £30.Also some 'Redditch 'lines from ebay, cheap as chips and again excellent lines-infact i was put onto these by some seasoned fly anglers from another site.

Good doesn't always mean expensive, and expensive doesn't always mean good.
IMO the most important thing is that the line suits the rod that you are using and suits your casting style. If you are happy with that then price doesn't come into it.
The problem with Airflo floaters is memory, they coil up like a spring.
Their sinking line are quite good though
Still can't see past this one at any price

ok, fair point it has a lot of memory, i'd noticed that, but, i do like the line (after a while of casting it sorts itself out)

might take your recomendation for next year wink.gif

Just noticed this thread showing up in the search logs.

TackleBargains have recently added a load more fly lines, and are always worth a look. Click here.

Funny this should come up - since I started fly fishing, I've spent a few quid on lines - I'd have spent less if I'd taken the advice here, bitten the bullet and bought the Snowbee XS lines I now have. Not cheap, but worth it.

take a look here-
tested one of these floaters a while back before they were let loose on the market and have since invested in three more, excellent value and great service.

Hi everyone!

I' am not looking for the best fly line but vor the best fly fishing reels. I hope someone can give me advice even though I'm in the "wrong" part of the forum..
My name is James and I will start fly-fishing this year. I already bought some equipment but especially the range of fly fishing reels is confusing me... help.gif
One of my mates recommended Z-Reels (http://www.z-reels.de/home.html) but before buying one I'd just like to make sure that it is the right choice..
Does anyboby know Z-Reels? Any experience? Any comments? Anybody knows where I can buy them in the UK?
Thanks for your help..

James
